Portable Ultrasound Imaging System

Project Overview

SOENCO developed a portable ultrasound imaging platform designed to bring diagnostic imaging into a compact, mobile system. The project combined ultrasound signal acquisition, embedded processing, portable power, connectivity, and an intuitive user interface within a platform suited for use beyond traditional fixed imaging equipment.

The system required close coordination between the ultrasound transducer, acquisition electronics, embedded processing, display interface, power architecture, and software. Particular attention was given to maintaining imaging performance while reducing the size, power requirements, and complexity of the overall device.

The resulting platform combined portable diagnostic imaging with a streamlined tablet-based interface, allowing imaging data to be acquired, processed, displayed, and managed through a compact medical system.

Engineering Challenges

1
Ultrasound signal acquisition
Ultrasound transducers generate sensitive high-frequency signals that require carefully designed analog electronics, signal conditioning, and data acquisition to preserve useful diagnostic information.
2
Embedded image processing
Large amounts of imaging data needed to be processed efficiently while maintaining responsive operation within the power and thermal constraints of a portable device.
3
Portable power architecture
The system required efficient power management capable of operating imaging electronics, processing hardware, communications, and the user interface from a compact power source.
4
System connectivity
Imaging hardware and the tablet-based interface needed reliable communication for device control, image transfer, system status, and diagnostic data management.
5
Compact system integration
Electronics, processing hardware, power systems, interfaces, and physical packaging needed to function together without sacrificing portability, usability, or serviceability.
